Hye, Texas is just about a stone’s throw from Stonewall (pun intended) in the heart of Texas wine country. William Chris Vineyards sits smack dab in the middle of Hye, offering boutique wines created with quality in mind.
Besides making great wine, Bill and Chris also know how to throw a party. They invited some of their Hye Society wine club members and wine bloggers to a night of festivities that included Williams Chris wines paired with Texas watermelon, Brazos Valley cheese, and amazing dishes from Rose Hill Manor, Kenichi, Paggi House and Quality Seafood.
My favorites wines: Mary Ruth, a blend of Chenin Blanc, Grenache Blanc and Muscat Canelli.
Also, the dry rose of Dolcetto, Barbera, Sangiovese and Chenin — check out the color next to the watermelon!
And love the green notes in the Cab Franc.
Best dishes: amazing watermelon-mint sorbet paired with scallop by Rose Hill Manor; watermelon and feta salad by Kenichi; and seafood soup by Quality Seafood.
Much to my surprise, Cliff and Betty Bingham of Bingham Family Vineyards (whose grapes are used in many Williams Chris wines) showed up after spending the evening in Fredericksbury celebrating their 31st wedding anniversary. Congrats Cliff and Betty!
A great night was had by all, especially me!
